It’s almost that time of year! Bazaar season is ahead and Chinchilla Whiskers is excited to be at several shows in the coming months. I hope you will be able to come out and see all the wonderful creations our crafty community has to offer.

Artisans for Animals ~ Sunday, November 10th

*Multnomah Arts Center 7688 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland*

This should be a fun one! Animal Aid, a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue and welfare organization, will be hosting Artisans for Animals on Sunday, November 10th at the Multnomah Arts Center.

Turn your holiday shopping into a lifesaving effort! There will be unique and beautiful items for everyone on your list, with a percentage of all vendor sales going to support Animal Aid’s mission.

Show hours: 11 am to 4 pm

Milwaukie High School Holiday Bazaar ~ Saturday & Sunday, November 16 & 17

*Milwaukie High School 2301 SE Willard St., Milwaukie, OR*

This two-day show, November 16 & 17, is a fundraiser for the Mustang Born Alumni Scholarship Foundation, which provides financial assistance to students graduating from Milwaukie High School and Milwaukie Academy of the Arts as they make the transition to post-secondary education.

In addition to fantastic local vendors, the Milwaukie High School Holiday Bazaar will also feature a silent auction, a vendor item raffle, and a pancake breakfast buffet (both days) from 9 am to 11 am.

Show hours: 9 am to 4 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Portland Waldorf School Holiday Market ~ Sunday, November 24

*Portland Waldorf School 2300 SE Harrison, Milwaukie, OR*

I love this show! The gymnasium is converted into a magical space with wintry decorations and music. The Market is celebrating its 8th year with over 30 artisan and crafters creating handmade wares for your holiday gift giving.

Show hours: 10 am – 3 pm

Lake Oswego High School Holiday Bazaar ~ Saturday, November 30

*Lake Oswego High School, 2501 Country Club Road, Lake Oswego*

This will be my 2nd year at the Lake Oswego High School Holiday Bazaar! This annual fundraising event benefits LOHS’s Arts Department. Vendor booth fees and raffle ticket sales go directly to supporting the school’s student artists.

Show Hours: 10 am to 4 pm

Lewis Elementary Holiday Bazaar & Tree Sale ~ Saturday, December 7

*Lewis Elementary 4401 SE Evergreen St., Portland*

This annual tradition has been going on for over 10 years and it is the Lewis PTA’s largest fundraiser of the year!

Area artisan vendors sell only handmade or locally-made goods. Lewis students also have booths to sell their crafty wares! Christmas trees and handmade swags/wreaths will be available to purchase.

All proceeds from booth fees and tree and wreath sales support Lewis School, allowing Lewis to continue bringing the programs and opportunities it has offered for many years.

Show hours: 10 am to 3 pm

Thank You for a Great Set of Winter Shows!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the craft bazaars this November and December! Thank you for supporting my small business and adding “handmade smiles” to your life. There are so many talented makers in our area and I know we appreciate you all taking the time to come out and take a look at our locally made, handcrafted items.

Thank you to friends and family who stopped by — Stacey, Kristi, Donna, and Kelly! It was so nice to see your friendly faces. At Llewellyn Elementary, I had such a great surprise when I ran into my son’s former 1st/2nd grade teacher. It’s been a few years since I saw her last. Our family has such wonderful memories of the years in her classroom. It really made my day.

Besides visits from friends, one of the best things about being part of the handmade community is getting to know the other vendors. Our displays are crammed into small spaces and we deal with varying temperatures, lack of customers, and display malfunctions. It is truly a bonding experience!

I tried to keep my personal shopping to a minimum, but couldn’t resist purchasing this little set from GnomeWerksPDX. Her creations are so sweet and I’ve wanted something from her for a while now.

This is just a small sample of her work. There are so many figures to choose from!

I am also really enjoying this hand cream from Raindance Organics. It smells delicious and is very soothing. My hands always get dry this time of year especially when I am sewing like crazy.

Now that my shows are done for the year, I am going to take the next few weeks to concentrate on the holidays, my family, and my wreck of a house!

Then, I hope to get more things up on Etsy, including a sale on some holiday items as well as try out some new patterns for possible inclusion in my product line.

I do have one show already lined up for 2018 — The Buckman Art Show & Sell on March 10 & 11! I did this show last year and had a great time. Hope to see you then!

Holiday Shows Start This Weekend!

The flurry of holiday markets and bazaars has begun! Chinchilla Whiskers will be at several shows this November and December. Hope you can stop by.

First up is the Llewellyn Holiday Market on Saturday, November 18th from 10 am – 5 pm.

Llewellyn Elementary is located at 6301 SE 14th Avenue, Portland, OR 97202.

This event is sponsored by the PTA to support afterschool programs and class field trips.

In addition to all the wonderful handmade goodies, other offerings include a storybook reading, a mini photo holiday shoot by Hannah Schreiner Photography, a fun leather making craft by Purpose Handmade, and wreath making by Sellwood Flower Company. PDX Sliders will also be onsite from 11am-2pm!

The following day, Sunday, November 19th, I’ll be at the Portland Waldorf School Holiday Market from 10 am – 3 pm.
